Job Title: Junior Officer
Contract type: full time, fixed term (Feb 2015-Feb 2016) with possible extension subject to funding 
Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Job description and responsibilities: 
We are recruiting a Junior Officer to provide technical inputs to the  Evidence for Action-MamaYe and MNCH2 programme in Nigeria. As Junior Officer for E4A-MamaYe Nigeria, provide technical support to the MamaYe-Evidence for Action (E4A) programme and MNCH2 in Nigeria.  You will work closely with the Nigeria Technical Support Unit Leads and the national team who will direct your technical inputs to the programme.
  • You will have an MSc or PhD in a relevant field with at least 1-2 years of experience implementing health programmes. 
  • You will be confident working with complex data sets and translating evidence into simple to understand formats and help communicate it to technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • You will have passion to drive forward advocacy for mothers and babies and support the team in strengthening maternal, newborn and child health accountability.
  • You will be fluent and accurate in written, online and oral communications, with a good understanding of the Nigerian maternal and newborn health context, and a track record of producing high quality materials for reporting and documentation of learnings.
  • You will have experience of working with, and an understanding of Nigeria’s media, NGOs, faith groups and other influential communities.You will have an understanding of the political, social and economic landscape in Nigeria and will be able to take this into account when communicating the work of E4A and MNCH2.
  • You will be passionate about ensuring maternal and newborn survival in Nigeria  
Person Specification
Essential
  • Experience in writing research and/or programme reports
  • Experience in supporting and coordinating technical work
  • Experience of working on health programmes in Nigeria
  • Successful experience of packaging and communicating information for different audiences, and on different platforms (e.g. print/web/mobile/broadcast) in an engaging way.
  • Excellent skills in communication, written and verbal
  • Proven ability to network and manage relationships with clients, consultants and technical resource persons
  • Self-starter as well as good team-worker
  • Willingness and ability to travel around the country
  • An MSc or PhD in a relevant subject
  • Fluency in English and good grasp of at least one local language.
  • Good understanding of the Nigerian political and social context
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in designing, implementing and/or monitoring/evaluating health programmes
Desirable
  • Experience of using a wide variety of communications, techniques and tools including demonstrable ability to successfully utilise social media blogs, Facebook, twitter etc. to communicate and advocate change.
  • Strong IT skills with exposure/experience of website management and maintenance
